Ruby
"Aren't you ready yet?" Vexon asked with a faint smile, getting dressed into a pair of denim jeans with a navy blue t-shirt. His wet hair, with a few dark brown strands plastered against his forehead, made him look even cuter. The strong scent of his cologne hit my nostrils.
I kept staring at him until my eyes eventually fell on the stupidly large mirror behind him. My lips were coated with chocolate syrup. I looked like a cat.
The tray in front of me was empty as I was currently eating the last muffin.
"You look cute." Vexon chuckled.
I rolled my eyes at him and continued eating. I felt the bed beside me dipping as he sat next to me, but I kept my eyes glued to the television.
"Why didn't you get ready?" he asked softly.
I glanced at him in confusion. "For what?"
He sighed. "For the movie."
"Movie?"
When did he mention a movie?
"I told you to get ready earlier. We are going to go and watch a movie," he stated as if he had been talking about it ever since he entered the room.
"You never told me," I said nonchalantly and played the next episode of Victorious. That show was so funny.
"I told you. Don't you remember?"
"No, you didn't," I retorted.
"Seriously? Then whom did I inform?" he questioned, engulfing both of us in confusion until I decided to answer.
"Maybe Catherine?"
"Oh please." Vexon sighed loudly. "I would rather donate our tickets to the poor."
I suppressed my smile. "Who knows?"
He looked at me in disbelief. "Don't you trust me? You think I would watch a movie with her?" he asked in terror, his eyes widening.
"Maybe," I said with an innocent look.
The look he had on his face was hilarious. Poor guy!
"You" he stopped when he saw me laughing.
I couldn't stop my laughter. It didn't take him long to guess that I was kidding. He let out an exasperated sigh once again.
"For a moment I really thought that you were serious. Out of all women, Catherine? Geez," his tone laced with disgust at the name of Catherine.
I told him, "Yeah. Now hush, let me watch the episode."
"What about the movie? It starts in half an hour, and you aren't ready yet," he complained and stood up.
"And whose fault is that?" I retorted, making him groan.
Why was he eager to take me to watch a movie? Did he think I never watched a movie before?
I preferred watching Netflix. I wasn't leaving this comfortable bed.
"Come on! Let's go. Get up and get ready." He tried to pull me from the bed.
"Argh! Leave me, I won't get up from this bed." I tried to push him away.
"You have to stop being lazy."
"No. I love being lazy. Plus, this bed is pulling me like a magnet," I tried to reason with him.
No way in hell I was leaving this bed! Even the thought of getting ready was so tiring.
"Ruby, why don't you wanna go?" he asked, feeling slightly annoyed.
"I am not in a mood to be active. I'm in a lazy mood. Why do you want to go?" I questioned back.
"Because I wanted to spend some quality time with " he stopped midway when he realized what slipped from his mouth.
I arched an eyebrow at him. A teasing look appeared on my face. "You want to spend some quality time with me?" He pouted and sat heavily on the bed beside me. I poked him. "And you told Maya to ask me what I want after an hour repeatedly?"
"No," he clearly lied, while I sighed. I thought, he would ask, 'how did you know?'
"If you lie, God will punish you," I said, trying to look as innocent as ever. "Besides, Maya's tongue must've slipped like yours."
I poked him again as he was quiet.
"Are you angry because I don't wanna go to watch the movie?" I asked as I poked him a third time.
No reply. He was just looking at the mirror.
Poke.
Poke.
Poke.
"Stop poking me," he grunted and went inside the dressing room. I stayed glued to the bed, dumbstruck. Well, at least he talked.
I took an emoticon pillow on my lap and leaned against the headboard. My eyes went straight to the television.
After a few minutes, the door of the dressing room opened. I glanced at Vexon to find out he had already changed into his comfy clothes. Did he give up already?
Thank God.
He sat beside me again and leaned on the headboard. What was he doing?
"So, what are you watching?" he asked curiously.
"Why do you want to know?" I retorted, not taking my eyes off the screen.
"Since you don't want to go and watch a movie, why don't I join you in watching the series?" A cute smile appeared on his face.
He looked so adorable, that it could melt anyone. "Oh" I mumbled.
"So... Tell me the story."
I looked at him briefly, to check if he was really interested to know or not. Noticing his intense gaze on me, I knew he was interested.
"It's called Victorious. It is a high school story. Tori Vega joins Hollywood Arts to fulfill her dream to be a pop star. And..." I told him the whole story. He was really interested. He was a great listener. With immense patience, he heard me talking about the episodes I watched throughout the whole day.
"Sounds like fun. Let's watch the remaining episodes." His eyes were back on the television.
It was funnier watching the series with him. We made sarcastic comments on a few episodes, drooled over the cute ones, and felt bad over the sad ones.
However, I couldn't help but stare at him. Just because of my laziness, I didn't agree to go out. Despite being upset, he did find a way to spend some quality time with me.
People say, 'When there's a will, there's a way.'
Now I understood the meaning of that proverb. It was a live example.
Why was he doing this?
I was afraid. If I didn't find a way to escape soon, I would get weak. I might start caring for him. And if I did, I would be bound to him for eternity.
Find an escape route, Ruby.
"I ain't the series, you know?" Vexon's voice snapped me out of my trance. I gave him a small smile, before turning back to the television.
Please, show me a way, God.
