Connor and I had a shower together and when we were getting dressed, his phone rang and he frowned before picking up the call. I figured whoever the caller was, was not on Connor's good side.
"Hey, Mom." He spoke into the phone, supporting the phone on his ear with his shoulder pressed to it while he wore his jeans trouser.
It was his mom?
I focused on doing my skincare while paying attention to his phone call too.
"Yes, I'm home. Why?" He listened to the other end of the line for a few seconds before speaking again. "Is it really important? Can't we make it some other time?"
It sounded like his mom was asking to see him.
He sighed a small frustrated sigh and replied one last, "okay, Mom." Before ending the call again. He immediately slipped his long sleeve shirt over his body and did the buttons before walking to me and planting a kiss on my cheek.
"Mom wants to see me. I'll be right back before you it."
"Okay." I gave him a peck too, this time, on his lips. He smiled and kissed me back before straightening up and walking out of the room.
"Love you."
"I love you too," I yelled after him and chuckled to myself at how much of a real couple we looked like now.
After I was done with my skincare routine and dressed in a casual baggy top and short jeans, I went downstairs to take my prenatal vitamins with orange juice and as I swallowed it, I placed my hand on my stomach and shut my eyes and tried to feel for the child in it. For a heartbeat. I smiled as I did so. It was as if there was a precious stone that was hidden right inside the safety of my stomach.
Just...was he safe in here? Was he safe with me?
The doorbell rang and I sighed and walked over to the door, dropping the glass of juice on the coffee table. It hadn't been up to thirty minutes since Connor had left. Did he forget something behind?
But my face fell as I opened the door and met the smiley face of no other person than Tory.
"Hey, Kenz." Tory waved at me, her smile broadened across her face.
I only stared at her and did not reciprocate her smile.
"Connor isn't home," I replied to her instead and she nodded knowingly.
"I know. He asked me to wait here for him."
I frowned and stared at her more intently.
Connor asked her to wait for him.
I sighed again and shifted aside for her to walk in. She maintained her smile and walked in while I shut the door behind her.
She walked over to the cushion and gently sat on it like she was afraid to hurt anything whether living or not. If I didn't know better, I would say she was a saint.
"How are you doing, Kenz?" She asked me, her voice fake with concern. I almost threw up at her pretence. I delegated between going back to my room and leaving her all alone in the living room or staying here with her and keeping a close eye on her lest she tried anything funny.
I decided to stick to the second option and sat on the couch opposite her where I could watch her closely.
"And the baby too?"
My frown turns to glare now and she did not break our gaze, the smile on her face still intact. She knew what she was doing to me and I should not be giving her the pleasure of watching me succumb to her tricks. But I wouldn't when my child was involved.
"Since you don't want to be nice to me and make me uncomfortable, at least be courteous enough to get me a glass of water, would you?"
Was she asking me to get her water?
"Please." She added and I rolled my eyes and got up from the couch. I entered the kitchen and grabbed a glass which I filled with water from the fridge. Shutting the door of the fridge close again, I flared my nose in an uprising rage.
Connor better comes back and attend to his woman or I will throw her out before she knows it.
I wondered why am angry. Was Connor right that I was beginning to have overreactive hormones from the pregnancy?
I walked back into the living room and handed Tory the glass cup. She thanked me sweetly and accepted the drink, gulping it in one drink. I guess she was truly thirsty after all.
I ignored her thanks and picked the orange juice I had abandoned earlier on the table and took a sip before sitting back on the couch. Tory kept staring at me with a smile on her straight face and I found it weird and tried to distract myself by taking another sip of my juice.
She looked like Haley Quinn if I was not going to lie. Same creepy weird-ass smiles.
We remained in silence for another few minutes and finally, Tory got up from her seat and picked up her chain purse.
"Connor seems to be taking too long. I will be taking my leave now."
Great! Thank you, Christ!
"Okay." I merely shrugged while deep inside, I partied in joy.
"Take care of yourself, Kenz." She smiled again. "And the baby."
I wanted to lynch her and tear her apart for mentioning my pregnancy in every discussion but I managed to pull myself together and watched her walk away and leave through the door.
I sighed in relief and smirked to myself.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
As I made to get up from the couch, a sudden sharp pain stung my stomach and I moaned in pain and sat right back down. The pain did not subside and my insides feel as though a living termite was eating through the organs in my stomach. I grunted and screamed at the pain and my legs gave way, causing me to fall to the bare floors. I felt a wetness in between my thighs and with laboured breath, I undid the zipper of my shorts and felt my hand into my bare thighs. When I pulled out my hand again, my eyes widened in shock and I scream at the thick red liquid in my hand.
Blood.
"No. No. No." I cried as the pain continues to shoot through my entire body.
Not my baby. No.
